Would you believe me when I say that you can get a slice of Provence, here in London? Well, to be honest, it’s not exactly in London. It is in Surrey but merely 15 miles from central London which should be a good enough reason to go to Mayfield Lavender farm.
The lavender is in full bloom from late June to late August. This means that it is a perfect day out option on a nice sunny summer day. The farm is easy to get to by car and even by public transport from London.
From motorways to roads through residential areas to country roads, it is quite a banal journey. Until you reach the farm. There you are greeted with acres of purple hues, lush and rolling, organised in neat columns, stretching endlessly. OK! I am exaggerating, you can see the end of it. It is pretty, nevertheless.
The bees are buzzing around the lavender flowers. Children are giggling and running along the path between the hedges. So can you, no one’s stopping. But do stop once in a while! And take a deep breath. The air is fragrant with lavender perfume, obviously. It’s not overly heady though.
Take pictures. It is such a perfect background. You will not be disappointed.
And when you are done, check out the little shop/café which sells lavender based products – soaps, oils, dried flower arrangements, fresh plants, honey, cakes, ice cream and even bread, to name a few.
Strolling amidst these blooming lavender is truly an experience of leisure, an experience to treasure!
