Hello there! I know it’s been a while. It’s crazy to think that the last time I posted was before the pandemic. I was staying safe, not travelling and generally keeping very (VERY) busy working full time and raising my twins.
Yes, in case you missed it, I am a mum to twins now. A boy and a girl. And they recently turned two!!!
I thought of sharing a post on how we celebrated their second birthday. Their first birthday was during peak lockdown and so this time around we were very excited to be finally able to invite friends and have a little party at home.
I wanted to keep the decorations simple so I went for the simplest of themes – balloons, something my kids absolutely love. Here’s how I hosted a balloon themed birthday party for my twins second birthday.
I chose one wall as the focal point for decorations. I selected 24 photos of my kids (narrowing down was no mean task) and got them printed via Photobox. I hung them using balloon strings tied to gorgeous pastel balloons. I didn’t bother with helium pump, just blew the balloons and stuck them to the wall using sticky tape. I also put up our beautiful Happy Birthday banner that I bought for their first birthday and plan to use every year.
I love how this turned out and I am so thankful to my friends who helped set it up.
Continuing with the theme, I also tied balloons to the return favour gift bags.
I decided to skip catering and prepared mainly finger food. For a deli-look, I covered some basic trays with brown Kraft paper. I cut up store bought sandwiches into triangles and set them up in a tray. I also made a hummus board with pita and some salad on the side.
There was pesto pasta with plum tomatoes and mini mozzarella balls. I also made avocado bruschetta topped with feta cheese and ketchup.
Arranging the cheese board/grazing platter was the most fun bit. That feta and honey dip was a huge hit! By the way, did you notice the balloon shaped paper plates?
For kids food, I made jam sandwiches, avocado-cheese sandwiches and a South Indian snack called Paniyaram.
I must say I spent a chunk of my planning phase on cake. I wasn’t sure if I should get two cakes or one. Having never hosted a birthday party before of this size, I didn’t know how much cake would be needed. And most importantly, who would bake the cake?!
I am so glad I found Geri via our local Facebook group. I met with her, told her exactly how I wanted the cakes to look and she delivered on that perfectly. The cakes didn’t just look lovely but tasted absolutely fantastic. They were vanilla cakes and the layers were blueberry confit and ganache, strawberry marmalade and raspberry mousse. Oh the layers!
And how about this amazing balloon cake topper! I must say I was intimidated about setting it up. Mostly because I am not very good at DIY 🙈 But the kit had everything I needed and it turned out pretty easy to do. Doesn’t it look phenomenal on the cakes?
Everyone enjoyed our balloon themed birthday party and the kids had a great time. I was thrilled how the evening turned out. Now bring on the terrible terrific twos!
Cheers,
Ameeta xx
